Standing alone in crowd

Dsc_02181447 The 5th graders had their class concert tonight. 130 of the area’s finest "last-year-of-elementary-school-can-you-believe-they-are-going-to-be-in-middle-school-in-a-few-months" kids got their sing on tonight.

Kenzo and Suzie were part of the gang. Kenzo is never one to be shy in front of crowds, but for Suzie, I had  this bittersweet feeling the whole concert. Partially because I am praying the whole time that she does not have a bad seizure in front of all these people and and mostly because I am trying to understand her and what she is thinking.

It’s like she is standing alone in a crowd. I see her singing the songs and doing some motions and standing in the right place at the right time. But more often than not she has this look on her face, like she is trying to figure out exactly why she is doing what she is doing.

And I wish that I could help her understand.
