Crockett Park 1/2 Marathon

I see all of these people, including my friend Randy Elrod, making this big deal about running the Country Music Marathon. And yes I understand that it is a big deal to run the 13.1 miles.

But frankly, there are thousands of us who run the much less publicized Crockett Park Half Marathon every Saturday. In this less organzied event, parents are seen dashing willy-nilly back and forth from soccer field to soccer field, to car and to potty, getting snacks and water and chairs and stuff ad nauseum…

Surely we all cover 13.1 miles every Saturday.

The downside is that at the soccer field we don’t get to wear those sporty shorts and numbers that our Country Music Marathon brethren wear…the uniform of choice at the Crockett Park Half marathon seems to be subtly blinged our jogging suits for the mama’s and "the first t-shirt that I come across in the closet" for the dads….

And just like the participants in tomorrow’s contest, you can find me tonight preparing for the race…carb-loading at the Sonic…
