Blessed be your name (i think…)

Whew…what a week.

One of the things I try to do for the girls is give them context about life and context about faith. We have been dropped into the middle on an amazing unfolding story, and it is often difficult to see how the goofiness of today fits into all of time.

There is a great song that Matt Redman a few years ago called "Blessed Be Your Name." The song is based on verses from the first chapter of Job, where, in the midst of all his suffering Job says…

"…the Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised."

Redman’s take on that passage is this…

Blessed be Your name
When the sun’s shining down on me
When the world’s ‘all as it should be’
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there’s pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out
I’ll turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name.

While we have not had a week that equals Job in terms of challenges and success, it has been a bit crazy. So to help the girls at the AtwoodZoo get a little context, I have "revised" the lyrics a bit to fit out situation….(my lyrics are not as concise as the original)

Blessed be your name,

when the girls all get report cards with "A’s" and Kenzo makes a great stop in goal at soccer.

Blessed be your name,

when Suzie goes days without a seizure and when Papa Johns delivers the pizza fast.

(and here is the hard part…)

Blessed be your name,

when it looks like the guy who was pulling out an old overgrown tree hits the main water line and the pressure goes away.

Blessed be your name,

when the girls get sick and we have to call the carpet cleaners before 10:00 in the morning.

(second verse)

Blessed be your name,

when the mailman brings an unexpected royalty check

Blessed be your name,

when the morning air is cool and I get to sit on the porch and read the paper and drink coffee before anyone else is up.

Blessed be your name,

when I get a new computer with Vista and for some stupid reason my T-Mobile Sidekick does not have the capability to sync with Vista(nor do they have any idea if or when it might be developed…)

Blessed be your name,

when the ice maker in the refrigerator springs a leak and the kitchen floor is covered with water.

Blessed be your name…(sigh….)
