Families? We don’t need no stinkin’ families…

Saw the most interesting story in the Washington Post today. The lead goes as follows:

Punctuating a fundamental change in American family life, married couples with children now occupy fewer than one in every four households — a share that has been slashed in half since 1960 and is the lowest ever recorded by the census.

Now I am not one to start looking for a cause and effect in everything…but with the decline of the "nuclear family" since 1970, it is curious to me that drug use, crime, and school drop out rates have all seen dramatic increases since 1970.

With everyone looking a million different places for the moral decay in society, perhaps we are overlooking what has decayed first – the family.
